Why do people say there is no healthcare for the poor?
it’sagoodlife asked:
I live in Michigan and there is health care for the poor. Those who seem to fall short are middle class self-employed workers. I’m sure all states have coverage for the poor.

You are correct. The poor do have coverage, it is the middle class who are without due to job loss, pre-existing etc.
Yet, those without are the very ones that Obama wants to foot the bill for those that already have coverage.

It’s all a lie. You see, they say *** million amount of people are uninsured.
They may not have a policy of their own, but most have some type of medical coverage as you state.
This is just to advance their cause.
It is illegal anywhere in the US for any hospital to deny medical care based on the persons inability to pay…just ask an illegal alien.
This is all hyperbole and a way to seize more government power.

That 45 million that Obama keeps talking about is a misleading number AND HE KNOWS IT!
This number includes everyone that was uninsured at some point in time during the year…including people that were between jobs and were only temp uninusred, illiegal immigrants, and people that make over 50K who CHOSE NOT TO buy health insuraance even though they could afford it. The real number of people who are “chronically uninsured” is really around 8 million, These people are working class people who make too much to qualify for medicaid and fall through the cracks. I think we should help these people out, but not revamp the whole system. That is insane

you are absolutely correct.
it is always the “forgotten man” who suffers and pays the price of not being rich enough, but too rich for help.

What most ppl don’t understand is that they are talking about the working poor. Those that have a job and because the premiums are so high AND the coverage is so bad that they just cannot afford it.
They make too much to recieve welfare. The guidelines are strictly enforced.
(I worked for the state as an “income maintenance worker” at the welfare office).

I don’t know. You are correct and it is far better than what Congress is trying to saddle us with. Interestingly enough, Obama said that the health care that he would offer to the American citizens was the same health care that he and the Congress enjoy. Only, the Congress passed a bill, which gives them a far different health care plan. Both Medicare and Medicaid will be eliminated. Instead, there will be death warrant health care for senior citizens. This is outrageous. The health care for the poor and elderly is far better than the Obama Care plan.

As an ER healthcare worker for almost 10 years I can assure you everyone has access to healthcare. I see them everyday. People with real emergencies are getting delayed treatment cause so many are seeking routine care through the ER. What should happen is hae a doctor at triage that can tell nonemergent patients they must see another doctor at a clinic instead of an ER.

it’s the upper class who is crying out now, and what a travesty they haven’t felt anyone elses pain until now. they have been able to stock and store money and live not giving a dam about you or I. their world has been infiltrated. this should make them aware of what the words humility and humanity means.

try getting in an emergency room. the free care has waiting times of hours because they are treating headaches and colds for the poor. a real emergency has a good chance of dying.

Go to your local ER and see how many illegal criminals are receiving health care and we are paying for it.

Create a video blog…instantly.
You try dragging a sick kid across town and queueing up in a crowded ER for your healthcare.
Most countries don’t call that healthcare.

There is here too in my state for the poor. Its not about people, the healthcare liberal plan if for power and destruction of the private sector. They want to destroy our system and change our culture.

You, as many others seem to not grasp what the problem is.
It is quite simple really. Every program put in place by government excludes people at a certain income point. In most cases that point is well below the poverty line.
You see, young lady, our governments loves really poor people and loves really wealthy people and hates everyone in between.
I am 62. I can retire at my age. But my SS payments of $1124.00 a month are too high of an amount to qualify for any government health care.
Now if I retire do you think $1124.00 is big money and I could afford to buy health insurance?

It depends on your definition of poor
I think the poverty line is 13,000 a year. But over that you arent considered poor, but most would agree that you are

Because they believe what they are told .poor people receive medicaid in every state. There are different affordable solutions also for middle income people most hospitals have sliding scales for payment and I know our state (CT.) has whats called the husky plan a state run insurance program .offered at no charge or a affordable fee.It seems to me the biggest problem is that people want something for nothing-let someone else pay for my needs, instead of taking care of their responsibilities.

Anyone can go to the hospital for emergency care (not any hospital, but there is always one in the area), whether they can pay for it or not. If they can not, the government pays, which means we all pay. I am tired of paying huge sums for emergency care because someone could not afford to go to the doctor until it became an emergency. We don’t need to have the most expensive health care in the world. We need reform!

welfare recipients – yes they do. Most won’t leave because they don’t have to earn it.
Then there are those who are homeless. Most don’t care anyway.
The two “big” groups are the low paid people who work for small companies who can’t pay for the premiums.
And there are the illegal immigrants.
I live in Texas, and since hospitals cannot deny, by law, to help someone in ER’s, this is where many of the illegal immigrants run to. Since they are not legal citizens, the hospitals have very little ability to seen payment and are forced to “suck up the bill,” per se. Now Obama wants the taxpayers to foot the bill.
Considering I am desperate to get my own bills paid and in line, to help someone else’s are our pay is ludicrous.
There is much more in the health care bill and this country’s debt will go up tenfold in the next eight years. This country will be so bankrupt every Chinese will own a piece of us.
Nice to know China will “own” my children.
Thanks, liberals. as long as it doesn’t affect you now, it’s OK. Way to think for others…

I also live in Michigan and the ‘health care for the poor’ consists of them using the ER for common things they should be seeing a regular doctor for. It’s the most costly way to treat the poor. Medicaid, contrary to popular belief covers mostly people who can’t work because they are disabled.
But you’re right about the middle class falling through the cracks and don’t forget all those in between jobs who have no coverage.
I know a guy who was costing the local hospital so much money THEY bought him an insurance policy and kept up the money payments.

healthcare
That is a misstatement the poor not having healthcare because that is what Medicaid is for. The people who do not have healthcare are the ones earning enough not to be entitled to Medicaid but earn not enough to afford to buy healthcare insurances.
