What is my best bet for affordable health care in Massachusetts?
Lola H asked:
My husband and I need health care, and are planning to get pregnant within the next year or so. My work offers a plan that monthly costs $133 for an individual, $255 for a couple or $300 for a family. This seems like a lot of money to me, but I don’t know what else is out there.

What else is out there, and where should I look? Do the prices that my employer’s plan is charging seem high, or par for the course?

Your work plan sounds pretty cheap actually. Get all the details on it and compare it to what’s out there (many places will give you free quotes and details on their plans). Don’t get fooled by places throwing low numbers out there in ads, they’re often quoting very stripped down versions that have insane deductibles and crap coverage.
When I lived in Ma (about 6 years ago) I was paying over $800/mo for family coverage as being self employed. We were in great health, non-smokers and 1 child.
