Massachusetts Mandatory Health Care Insurance Program?

sel_bos asked:

The Massachusetts government implemented a Mandatory Health Care Insurance Program in order to boost Health care Insurance providers revenue. Those who choose not to abide by the new law will be subject to penalty.

I am a Canadian working in Massachusetts. Will I be punished if I stick with my Canadian Health care Plan?
I am Massachusetts resident too. I pay Federal and states tax.

No you won’t I live in Massachusetts and only residents of the state have to abide. Anyways, you have no problem cause u have health insurance up in Canada, So there’s no possible way they could get you. But in total, no you can’t get into trouble with the Mass State.

Isn’t this just like Mass. and its reps? They foist a program on the citizens( Democratically proposed and implemented) and spend a billion on a tunnel whose ceiling keeps falling and killing people. Then they have Chappaquiddock Ted, and the inimitable hero, John Kerry along with Bernie Franks trying to raise all our taxes so that they can support the illegals ? Only in America can we elect these fools.

Interesting question. I don’t know that they actually addressed that in the
legislation, but you can’t be the only person who has Canadian health.

“If a new piece of Massachusetts’ insurance initiative is accepted on March 7,
as expected, the average uninsured Massachusetts resident will be able to obtain
health care coverage for as little as $175 per month. That is less than half of
earlier estimates, according to officials on Saturday. The “average” resident of
    Massachusetts is 37 years old.

The state panel overseeing the new law – the Commonwealth Heath Insurance
Connector board – is expected to approve seven health care plans available to
state residents. Two weeks later, the panel will decide whether or not insurance
companies will be able to offer versions of their plans for a lower cost,
    without including drug coverage.

Any plans competing for the panel’s seal of approval must meet requirements,
including coverage for preventative visits to the doctor, and an out-of-pocket
hard limit. After the limit, which is $5,000 for individuals and $10,000 for
families – has been reached, the plan would cover all other health care costs.
In addition, the plan would create a maximum deductible of $2,000 for
individuals and $4,000 for families.” …

How I read that info, and I could be wrong, is that unless the plan is on the
approved list there COULD be a problem. Naturally your plan would NOT be on the
list because it’s foreign. However, as they also have a list of requirements
that must be met, and your plan should exceed those, I think you’d have to be
OK. But then, this IS a government program, so logic is not likely to be the
rule of the day. As it’s not passed yet–I’d contact your state health insurance
agency and see if they’ve thought of this.
