Lacking in both healthcare plans?

In another place asked:

DO you think that both Hillary and Obama’s health care plans miss the point of reducing costs by promoting wellness?

How come both candidates dont address prevention and wellness?

  1. WHY!! Says:

The thing lacking in both of their plans is medical care without a 2 year wait.

  2. Sway_27 Says:

seems their plans will drive up the cost, Hillary wants to mandate that all insurance comapnies ACCEPT ANYONE WHO APPLIES, noone can be turned down, so what does that do, drives up cost because now more people with chronic problems will flock to the “better” providers and drive up costs for all of us.

  3. Hi, Vote Nader! Says:

Where’s the profit in wellness, the HMO’s want a return on their candidates.

It is a valid point, however the problem they are mainly addressing is the lack of health care for millions and then of course the low quality of health care all americans have. Our health care system is dead last in industrialized nations even for those who have insurance. Plans to address healthy lifestyles are certainly a good idea, unfortunately so many of our drug companies oppose it. Take for example “Acid Reflux Disease”. There is such a thing, however it can be cured by not eating lard and fast food and drinking like a fish – you actually dont need drugs to cure it. Take depression, in some cases drugs are needed, but in most what is needed is the sufferer to actually address their lives problems instead of letting them pile up.
FIxing our health care system will be a daunting task. But both candidates have ideas that will move us in the right direction.

Obese children who don’t participate in sports? When I was a child (I’m 53), the rare “fat kid” either had a health problem or had parents who allowed them to become a couch potato. Parents played with their children when I was a child. Now, they play a video game with them, if they interact with them at all.

Sorry, with programs like outlawing tag at school because someones feelings get hurt by being “it,” we must expect these problems to continue.

My son was active in martial arts at the age of 4. He participated in baseball, soccer and rowing throughout his school career. He is a healthy young man who we send dried fruit and nuts to in Iraq because he is concerned about the high calorie diet served in the dining facility.

My point? Neither B. Hussein Obama nor Hillary R. Clinton are going to change lifestyles. Any premise that they will is absurd.

  6. StereotypeMeBecauseYouKnow Says:

As is usually the case, the Democratic plan will be the most expensive, and likely will lead to a decline in the overall system.

One question: Do you think your grandparents or great grandparents came to this country because health care was a right? Or, do you think they came here because it was a great opportunity to work hard and be rewarded for that effort?

  7. cohistoryteacher Says:

Hillary’s Plan – Institute mandatory government run universal health care for all. If you have your own insurance too bad, you know have government care…if you don’t want to pay for it, a government agency will collect the fees from you by tapping into your paycheck.

Obama’s Plan – Give everyone the same health care that is in the Senate and house but I don’t know how we are going to pay for it.

Both of them model their plans after the Canadian system but what we have to ask is why are so many Canadians coming to the US for their care? isn’t their system so great?

Prevention and wellness are not the Politically Correct Liberal way because people have a right to sit on their couch, eat Big Macks, get fat and then sue McDonalds for their health problems.

  8. ssp0002 Says:

Because the bottom line is that ‘wellness’ is a matter of personal choice. They can encourage healthier behavior, but they can not mandate it. You can not force people to be healthy, and please don’t suggest fines or higher insurance rates, it’s already being done and it hasn’t changed a thing regarding behavior. All that does is further stress the pocket books of people who can’t afford their insurance premiums in the first place. As for prevention, consider this. My insurance company would rather pay for the expensive surgery, and the after care, to correct a very painful foot problem than pay $400 for the orthodic inserts for my shoes that could prevent the problem from getting to point of needing the surgery. Figure that one out.

There is something said about wellness in both–just not that much of a stress. The real problems include that they have NOT addressed the ACTUAL problems. While it’s true it’s always better to prevent problems, that’s not the cause of high health care costs in the States.

This plan would correct the problems AND focus on prevention:
QUALITY, ACCESSIBLE, AFFORDABLE health care for all.
That means preventative care (physical with follow up). Real medication (no Medicare “donut holes” the really ill are ripped off again.) No bogus ridiculously low “caps” on needed medical procedures. No abuse of the ER. No paying for the silly with the sniffles to go to the doc for free. No more bankruptcies over medical bills. I want THIS plan that ends abuse of the taxpayer, takes the burden off employers, provides price transparency, and ends the rip-off of the US taxpayer at the hands of greedy insurance CEOs (which has been repeatedly documented).
Read the PDF, not the blurb, for the bulk of the plan. Book is searchable on Amazon.com
