How does Obama plan to make Universal Health Care work if he gets elected?
Mark B asked:
It seems that many Americans are struggling as hard as it is to pay for health care, how will he make it free?

He can’t. Period. Universal health care is absolutely horrible, and if people knew just what that is, there is no way they would be in favor of it. It’s a terrible dream that can’t come true.

It’s all there.
He isn’t planning UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE.
McCain is going to make your employer fork out $5000 but in turn it will cost you about $12000 as a result to buy it.

He will probably legislate what health conditions the government will pay for, and put taxes on unhealthy behaviors.
I can easily see him charging a “fat tax” on obese people and corporations that sell junk food, and possibly even telling people how many kids they can have and charging fines for being over the limit of children or even mandating abortions.
It’s a scary brave new world that I for one hope never comes.

Universal Health Care should be a moral imperative in the USA, but somehow the Republican party has convinced most Americans that it somehow doesn’t work.
That aside, Barack Obama hasn’t said he plans to institute Universal Health Care, he said he wants to make it cheaper and more accessible.

Obama is not advocating strictly universal healthcare – rather a system where healthcare in America is accessible and affordable with safety nets for some who cannot afford it.
Marina – every other developed nation has universal healthcare. And every one of them produces a healthier population than the USA. We have the lowest life expectancy in the developed world, the second lowest healthy life expectancy and the highest child mortality and yet they pay half per capita what we do on average.
FACT!

It won’t be free. He plans to tax the rich who own the businesses we work for. They in return will cut our pay or outsource the jobs to another country to make up for what they will loose. So in the end we might have health care but no job

BY taxing everyone and raising fees.
And once it is implemented, then they start the rationing, just ask Canada or the UK.
Our European friends says they have private insurance because the state insurance is so bad.

He’s not making plans for Universal Health Care, but that the people could have the same insurance as they have in Congress and the Admin, at the Cost the low income citizen can afford to pay.

He’s going to stop the waste in medicare, medicaid, supplemental insurance companies and hospital ripoffs, then use the savings for all the people who have no insurance because of the high cost that use the emergency rooms for simple medical problems. Also he would be able to negotiate the high cost of medications like they do in Canada and other countries.

The answerer ‘arklatexrat’ gave is correct. It would start with Obama and eventually morph into the nightmare of all nightmares. Our government, regardless of who is in office or in congress, is out of control. Only aggressive demands from ‘the people’ will make it change. I, being one of millions, don’t want the change he has in mind nor the actions of our congress -past and present, nor the decisions of our Supreme Courts -past and present. There needs to be a true movement demanding that congress act according to our wishes, not their own. We need to bombard congress and the Supreme court every time they make wrong decisions and tell them to reverse some they have already made.
Call and write on every topic that is important to us. This and our votes are the only way the correct change will be made.
