I want ideas.
We are in a free market system and health care costs keep rising. They keep rising to the point where people can no longer afford their premiums, employers are cutting back and with massive layoffs, people are becoming uninsured very quickly.
As the costs of the uninsured are passed to those who are insured, the cycle continues.
So how can we get affordable health care?
I also don’t want answers involving lawsuits, that is BS.

don’t give free health care to illegal immigrants and make people more responsible for their health and use of the medical system. When it’s “free” a small percentage take all the services from everyone else.

Make everyone pay for office visits. Insurance should be just like a car, only for emergencies or major medical.

get the government and insurance out of the third party payer business because they drive up costs.
Look at the costs of procedures like Lasik, not covered by medicare or insurance, where costs have gone down, unlike in similar procedures that are covered.
I think it does involve law suits, though, in that we should allow doctors to enter into arbitration agreements rather than having law suits because while damages may be fair, the court system is too expensive.
Look at Ron Paul’s ideas on this.

Competition is the answer, plain and simple. Insurance companies have a monopoly on the healthcare industry and costs are doubling every 9 years. They have no competition and will never have any competition unless a competitive force comes in to play. Unfortunately, that’s the government. I think they’re doing it right by offering an insurance exchange where you can pick from any insurer, including the government run insurance.
No one is forcing you into a government insurance plan, nor is the government controlling your healthcare or sponsoring it. It’s simply competititon to drive costs down. If we don’t, the average person is going to be screwed by healthcare costs rising at 3 times the rate of inflation.
