Dining Room Chair Cushions

Choosing dining room chair cushions that don’t overwhelm your kitchen isn’t easy; no matter how hard wooden chairs beg to be softened with them. You are able to pick up a set of chair cushions for $5 at the local dollar store, but would they fit into your room’s decor- or detract from your style? Chair cushions that are cheaper have less durable fabric, thin padding and poor workmanship.

Anyone who cares enough to select fine quality, well constructed decorative chair cushions for the dining room or kitchen environment will surely earn a set of furniture which endures, gives more pleasure and comfort, and will need far less maintenance with passing time. In selecting chair cushions to be used on wood chairs, be sure to consider these factors. Be sure to pick the right size for the seat- it will be too uncomfortable if the cushion is too small. If it’s too large, it will look bulky - and the edges of the chair seat will add to the wear on the fabric and cut the life of your cushions.

Be sure to inspect any ties sewn into the seam of the cushion. The ties or straps on a chair cushion get pulled and tugged frequently from everyday use. They are more likely to remain attached if the ties are sewn into the seam.

Buy seat cushions treated with stain guard to make it easy to keep them clean. If the perfect cushions are not stain resistant, Invest in a can of stain resist or stain guard to keep them looking fresh and new. This is,in fact, your kitchen, and your children eat here, right? You should choose a cushion that is either washable or removable, and can be washed. Some spills are going to soak in, even with stain guard. Your life will be made easier by being able to toss your chair cushions into the washer. Select cushions constructed with sturdy fabric that will endure the wear of plenty of seats on the seat.

Corduroy, denim, chintz, canvas and duck are all good choices for fabric that wears like iron. Embellishments like rolled edges, piping or ruffles need to be securely sewn into the seam between the cushion’s top and bottom. Examine the full length of the seam for any gaps or breaks and pull gently on ruffles or piping to be sure they are fully attached. Tufted cushions are pretty - but they can be uncomfortable if you sit on them for long periods of time. If you do choose tufted cushions, make sure that any buttons are sewn on through all layers of the chair cushion to avoid losing buttons to wriggling bottoms.
